latest site updates.
This site has been dormant for a long time and no further work will be done on the Census for the foreseeable future. When I originally started this website, my goal was to reverse the trend of the dwindling popularity of 1/72 scale, and this goal has been achieved. The number and frequency of releases in this scale is now far too much to keep up with. 1/72 scale is now massive globally. Another goal was to push industry to get their arse into gear releasing models we really wanted. This has also occured and is ongoing. Many of my petitions to industry have been answered.
There are still gaping holes in the Census, particularly with regard to German and Japanese aircraft, and the Figure Census has not been updated for a very long time. I cannot say when this will occur because my focus has moved to other things. It is possible to remain largely up to date with what is being released by going to the manufacturer links page and seeing what they have done lately. Or, you can be lazy and just go to Hannants or Hobby Link Japan, who between them both have just about everything covered. Ebay is a great source of out-of-production kits and decals, I have found some extremely rare kits on there. Every now and then when I get a flash of inspiration I will update a page or 2 here and there. The Eurofighter and F-22 Raptor pages have been updated recently, but right after I did that Platz came out with a new decal sheet for the F-22. It just never ends.
From now on, most of my effort in regards to this site will be in petitioning industry to release new subjects because I have found this to be very effective. More than 50% of new aircraft kit requests have been granted.
The scale has gained great momentum over the last 5 years and remains at the very top for popularity. It is most satisfying to see gaps gradually being plugged and new genres being estalished. There is now a respectable range of boats and ships in 1/72, and sailor figures to go with them. One of the most significant events was the release of the German Navy U Boat submarine by Revell GMBH, one of the largets kits produced in any scale in history, and the subsequent proliferation of aftermarket products and reference material that surfaced after that release. Its release had a profound effect. Chinese diecast manufacturers have now given us vehicles never before available in this scale, including very useful Landrovers and pickup trucks which can be posed with aircraft and tanks. Revell Germany and Academy have given us some modern trucks as a direct result of the petitions on this site. Transport Wings has started producing large jets again and they are releasing a small range of GSE vehicles as well. There has even been a premium series of Star Wars kits released by Finemolds in this scale. It is now possible to buy radio controlled models of tanks and cars in 1/72 scale. The release of figures defies any attempt to keep up with it. Recently a couple of the largest aircraft kits ever produced were released by Anigrand and AModel, of the C-5 Galaxy and An-124 Ruslan respectively.
My thoughts on the big picture continue in the just updated oracle page.
Please note that this website's URL has CHANGED. Please spread word of this and the new petitions in the forums you visit.
